Of Deer, Dogs and Two-Headed Snakes
These two unique liturgical -insignias which were produced as tablet-woven tapestries contain a wonderful world of plants and animals. They are from the High Middle Ages, which makes them around 1,000 years old. And it is probably down to chance that they have now found their way from the church of St. Donat, -Arlon, for safe-keeping in the museum en Piconrue, Bastogne (Belgium). The museum is currently striving to have them recognized as items of cultural heritage, as they are of inestimable value. It is time present them to the general public!
The book contains photos of the originals and reproductions as well as patterns for all 29 motifs. Detailed notes provide information about the colors and weaving technique. Therefore, anyone with at least basic knowledge of tablet weaving can reproduce the motifs.

Emergence
The new Lily grove motifs in the Arlon style have evolved and also matured. The longing for a just or harmonic world order where in the end only the good will rule can only continued to be told in tiny bits of yarn. Just as in the first lily grove book, designs for a maximum of 35 tablets are sorted by topic: lilies, dogs, snakes, large four-legged creatures, birds, as well as floral and decorative ornaments, however, they have grown for the most part more sophisticated. A new chapter on seperating elements and patterned color changes adds possibilities of creative design options. The topic is still Lilies – a symbol of rebirth – and with it the red thread that connects the motifs to each other. The book is complemented by a synopsis of the basics as well as practical pointers to set-up and weaving and also to the modification of the twill weaving patterns.
